About

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is often described as “The science of life.” It is the traditional natural medicine of India, dating back over five thousand years. Ayurveda is a complete health care system, taking EVERY aspect of a person into account. It is WHOLE person medicine. In the United States, Ayurveda falls under Complementary & Alternative Medicine (CAM).  Ayurveda supports and respects all traditional Western medical treatments and works along with them.

What is an Ayurvedic Practitioner?

An Ayurvedic Practitioner (AP) is a clinical professional trained in the traditional Indian medical science known as Ayurveda. Unlike entry-level counselors who focus primarily on general wellness, a Practitioner has advanced clinical training in pathology and disease management. The focus is on root cause rather than just symptoms. An AP helps bridge the gap between daily habits and long-term vitality. We honor the body’s natural ability to heal and restore balance. Our job is to remove what’s in the way of that process.

  • Clinical Expertise: AP’s are trained to assess complex imbalances using techniques like seven-layer pulse diagnosis (nadi pariksha), tongue analysis, and deep questioning.

  • Personalized Care: We develop tailored treatment protocols based on a person’s unique constitution (Prakriti) and current state of imbalance (Vikriti).

  • Holistic Tools: Our interventions go beyond diet and lifestyle to include herbal medicine (custom formulations), rejuvenation therapies (Rasayana), and detoxification programs like Panchakarma.

  • Root-Cause Focus: Instead of just treating symptoms, we aim to identify the underlying etiology (Nidana) and pathogenesis (Samprapti) of a condition to realign the body back towards homeostasis.

What is the Goal or Purpose of Ayurveda?

The entire goal of Ayurveda is Swastya, which means TRUE HEALTH in Sanskrit. By shifting the focus from strictly "fighting disease" to supporting the individual, it transforms healthcare into a proactive journey rather than a reactive battle. Ayurveda doesn’t consider TRUE HEALTH as just the absence of disease, it seeks to take a person to their innate VITALITY, and optimal level of functionality.

While Western medicine often focuses on symptom management for acute issues, Ayurveda’s "slow medicine" approach is designed to address the lifestyle and environmental roots of chronic imbalances. Ayurveda is not about the quick-fix. It doesn’t take the “band-aid” approach to health. Ayurveda is about long-term, sustainable restoration of the mind, body and spirit, by working with the body, not against it.

A part of Ayurvedic medicine is focused on disease prevention. Ayurveda recognizes DIS-EASE long before a Western diagnosis is received. The earlier the imbalance is recognized, the greater the healing potential. Ayurveda helps maintain health, heal disease, and create longevity of life.
