What is Integrative Psychology?
At LLWS Integrative Psychology is a blend of Eastern and Western therapeutic practices designed to educate, support, and empower clients to live the life they deserve to live.
The biggest difference between Western Psychotherapy and Eastern Psychotherapy is in the overall vision. The goal of Western Psychotherapy, is self-regulation. The goal of Eastern Psychotherapy is self-actualization. In the West, when a personal problem is solved, or behavior is understood, or a disorder is treated, the goal is met. The East looks at it from a broader perspective diving into self-exploration, encouraging harmony within and getting to the deeper understanding of "The Self." This takes you beyond self-regulation. THE LLWS approach is a beautiful blend of Therapeutic approaches to bring a person into WHOLENESS.
The foundation is based on Ayurvedic Psychology. Sattvavajaya Chikitsa is the Ayurvedic approach to psychotherapy. The focus is on learning how to "Be friend" the mind, instead of the Mind controlling you.
As long as you allow the Mind to be "In Control," it will be, and it can be paralyzing, causing all types of confusion, lack of focus, lack of purpose, and lack of joy in life.
Ayurveda teaches that there's five core methods to strengthen the mind, and move into Sattva (harmony):
Jnana - Improving discrimination, integrating knowledge into wisdom.
Vijnana - Developing rational understanding and discernment
Dhairya - Building courage, fortitude and patience
Smriti - Improving memory to avoid repeating past patterns
Samadhi - Building mental focus and ultimately leading to living life as a fluid meditation
This foundation is interwoven with:
Psychological counseling - helpful in managing anxiety, depression and behavioral disturbances.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - focuses on correcting irrational thoughts, which ayurveda refers to as Mithyajnana. This is a Sanskrit word that means "false knowledge."
Humanistic Psychology - A client-centered approach that emphasizes inherent human goodness, creativity, love, free will, and the motivation towards self-actualization. This is helpful in overcoming blocks to personal growth.
Positive Psychology - The scientific study of what makes life worth living.
Transpersonal Psychology - Focuses on the human potential, states of consciousness, and self-development beyond the ego.
Philosophical Psychology - Bridges the gap between philosophy and psychological sciences. It uses both philosophical inquiry and empirical data to tap into topics such as the mind-body disconnection, the self, consciousness, and emotions.
Mindfulness Psychology - The practice of cultivating present-moment awareness and non-judgemental acceptance of thoughts, emotions and body sensations. Focuses on fostering curiosity, rather than reactivity.
Psycho-spiritual Education - The integration of psychology and spirituality that views human health as a combination of mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.
These Integrative sessions are incredibly unique to each and every person and circumstance. This isn't a "Just take this Pill" approach to your well-being. These sessions are designed not only for self-regulation, but for understanding the "Why" we act the way we do, and the "HOW" to help us move past our reactive patterns.
