AYURVEDA AND SPRINGTIME

From the Ayurvedic perspective, good health depends upon our Agni or digestive fire, which allows us to fully assimilate, digest and eliminate food and process/digest information taken in by our five senses. 


When this digestive capacity is balanced, we create healthy tissues, eliminate waste products efficiently and produce ‘ojas, a subtle essence that refers to our immunity. On the other hand, if our agni is weakened due to stress, wrong combination of foods, eating before the previous meal has been digested, eating leftovers, cold drinks, salads or sushi at night time, frozen or canned food, digestion is incomplete creating toxins in the body called ‘ama.’ Ama qualities are heavy, dense, cold, and slimy which blocks bodily channels, leading eventually to disease.

LIFE IS FOOD ~ FOOD IS LIFE

We've all heard the old saying, "You are what you eat." Well, we literally are. Here's why. From the ayurvedic perspective, it takes food 30 days to fully assimilate into your cells of your being.


A simple synopsis of how this works, looks like this.

Digestion starts in the mouth, then further gets broken down in our stomach, then into our small intestine and from there the waste goes into our large intestine for elimination. That is a super basic explanation of how it works.


What we don't realize is what happens after this. We assume, that when we poop it out, we are done. Not the case. After this initial digestion process, the nutrients from our food gets taken into the layers of our tissues. We have 7 layers of tissues that all need nutrients, from our first layer, which supplies fluids and nutrients to all the other lay…
