HEALTH & WELLNESS COACHING

What is a Health & Wellness Coach?

A health & Wellness coach is a supportive part of our medical paradigm.  We do not diagnose, label, or give advice.  We don't suggest "fixes."  We honor your starting point and partner with you, as you navigate through your unique transformational journey.

This is a collaborative relationship with an individual, or group,  interested in enhancing their well-being through self-directed lasting changes, aligned with their core values. The coach reveres the fact the client is an expert on one's own life and we are the support role. We assist clients in activating internal strengths, while tapping into external resources to make sustainable and healthy lifestyle behavior changes.  All interactions are professional, respectful, non-judgmental and confidential.  â€‹

What is a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach?

National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coaches (NBC-HWCs) are credentialed members of the healthcare industry who serve as behavior change agents and are trained to the highest standard in the profession, which means that they have the skills and knowledge to walk alongside you on your path to your healthiest self.

NBHWC's engage individuals and groups in client-centered processes that facilitate and empower clients to develop and achieve self-determined, health and wellness goals.

Training:

A National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) is trained in evidence-based behavior change theories, motivational interviewing, coaching psychology, and health education.

Why work with a Health Coach?

People work with health coaches to help them with a variety of health issues such as:

  • weight loss   *stress reduction    *anxiety

  • managing chronic conditions    *overloaded schedules which lead to lifestyle imbalances

  • burnout  *support with addition behavior   *lack of sleep...etc.

Health coaches understand that relationships, career, social activity, exercise, and spirituality are just as important to your health as the food that you eat.

Common Questions?

Can I have a psychotherapist and a health coach?

Yes.  In many cases, clients have both a coach and a therapist.

What is the difference between a psychotherapist and a coach?

Therapists focus on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions.  Coaches focus on setting goals, improving performance, and creating actionable, forward-looking strategies for personal and/or professional growth.

Integrative Psychology & Counseling

What is Integrative Psychology?
At LLWS Integrative Psychology is a blend of Eastern and Western therapeutic practices designed to educate, support, and empower clients to live the life they deserve to live.
The biggest difference between Western Psychotherapy and Eastern Psychotherapy is in the overall vision.  The goal of Western Psychotherapy, is self-regulation.  The goal of Eastern Psychotherapy is self-actualization. In the West, when a personal problem is solved, or behavior is understood, or a disorder is treated, the goal is met. The East, looks at is from a broader perspective diving into self-exploration, encouraging harmony within and getting to the deeper understanding of "The Self."  This takes us beyond self-regulation.  THE LLWS approach is a beautiful blend of Therapeutic approaches to bring a person into WHOLENESS.

The foundation is based on Ayurvedic Psychology.  Sattvavajaya Chikitsa is the Ayurvedic approach to psychotherapy.  The focus is on learning how to "Be friend" the mind, instead of the Mind controlling us.
As long as we allow the Mind to be "In Control," it will be, and it can be paralyzing, causing all types of confusion, lack of focus, lack of purpose, and lack of joy in life.

Ayurveda teaches us that there's five core methods to strengthen the mind, and move into Sattva (harmony):
Jnana - Improving discrimination, integrating knowledge into wisdom.
Vijnana - Developing rational understanding and discernment
Dhairya - Building courage, fortitude and patience
Smriti - Improving memory to avoid repeating past patterns
Samadhi - Building mental focus and ultimately leading to living life as a fluid meditation

This foundation is interwoven with:
*Psychological counseling is helpful in managing anxiety, depression and behavioral disturbances.
*Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on correcting irrational thoughts, which ayurveda refers to as Mithyajnana. This is a Sanskrit word that means "false knowledge."
*Humanistic Psychology - A client-centered  approach that emphasizes inherent human goodness,  creativity, love, free will, and the motivation towards self-actualization.  This is helpful in overcoming blocks to personal growth.
*Positive Psychology - The scientific study of what makes life worth living.
*Transpersonal Psychology - Focuses on the human potential, states of consciousness, and self-development beyond the ego.
*Philosophical Psychology - Bridges the gap between philosophy and psychological sciences.  It uses both philosophical inquiry and empirical date to tap into  topics such as the mind-body disconnection, the self, consciousness, and emotions.
*Mindfulness Psychology - The practice of cultivating present-moment awareness and non-judgemental acceptance of thoughts, emotions and body sensations.  We foster curiosity, rather than reactivity.
*Psycho-spiritual Education - The integration of psychology and spirituality that views human health as a combination of mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.

These Integrative sessions are incredibly unique to each and every person and circumstance.  This isn't a "Just take this Pill" approach to your well-being.  These sessions are designed, not only for self-regulation, but for understanding Why we act the way we do, and the "HOW" to help us move past our reactive patterns.

AYURVEDIC MEDICINE

Ayurvedic Coaching

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is often described as “The science of life.” It is the traditional natural medicine of India, dating back over five thousand years.  Ayurveda is a complete health care system, taking EVERY aspect of a person into account. It is WHOLE person medicine. In the United States, Ayurveda falls under Complementary & Alternative Medicine (CAM).  Ayurveda supports and respects all traditional Western medical treatments and works along with them.

What is an Ayurvedic Practitioner?

An Ayurvedic Practitioner (AP) is a clinical professional trained in the traditional Indian medical science known as Ayurveda. Unlike entry-level counselors who focus primarily on general wellness, a Practitioner has advanced clinical training in pathology and disease management. The focus is on root cause rather than just symptoms.  An AP helps bridge the gap between daily habits and long-term vitality.  We honor the body’s natural ability to heal and restore balance.  Our job is to remove what’s in the way of that process.

· Clinical Expertise: AP’s are trained to assess complex imbalances using techniques like seven-layer pulse diagnosis (nadi pariksha), tongue analysis, and deep questioning.

· Personalized Care: We develop tailored treatment protocols based on a person’s unique constitution (Prakriti) and current state of imbalance (Vikriti).

· Holistic Tools: Our interventions go beyond diet and lifestyle to include herbal medicine (custom formulations), rejuvenation therapies (Rasayana), and detoxification programs like Panchakarma.

· Root-Cause Focus: Instead of just treating symptoms, we aim to identify the underlying etiology (Nidana) and pathogenesis (Samprapti) of a condition to realign the body back towards homeostasis.

What is the Goal or Purpose of Ayurveda?

The entire goal of Ayurveda is Swastya, which means TRUE HEALTH in Sanskrit.  By shifting the focus from strictly "fighting disease" to supporting the individual, it transforms healthcare into a proactive journey rather than a reactive battle.  Ayurveda doesn’t consider TRUE HEALTH as just the absence of disease, it seeks to take a person to their innate VITALITY, and optimal level of functionality.

While Western medicine often focuses on symptom management for acute issues, Ayurveda’s "slow medicine" approach is designed to address the lifestyle and environmental roots of chronic imbalances.  Ayurveda is not about the quick-fix. It doesn’t take the “band-aid” approach to health. Ayurveda is about long-term, sustainable restoration of the mind, body and spirit, by working with the body, not against it.

A part of Ayurvedic medicine is focused on disease prevention.  Ayurveda recognizes DIS-EASE long before a Western Diagnosis is received.  The earlier the imbalance is recognized, the greater the healing potential.  Ayurveda helps maintain health, heal disease, and create longevity of life.

Why Yoga and What are the Benefits?

Yoga originated in India. It's original purpose was to help the body build strength and stamina so one can can sit in meditation for long periods of time. The word Yoga means, "To Unite."  The goal of yoga is to  help connect the body with the mind, and ultimately, the self.  The physical benefits are increased strength, mobility, balance, proprioception, and body awareness.  Through yoga, the body learns to adapt to physical limitations while finding strength and serenity.

RAINDROP TECHNIQUE
(Essential Oil Treatment)

Raindrop Technique is a sequence of applying essential oils to the feet and back which promotes health and body balance. The powerful technique combines the healing essential oils with the bodies own energy systems.

Vitaflex means “vitality through the reflexes.”  It is based on a complete network of reflex points that stimulates all the body systems.  Energy is released through electrical impulses created by contact between the fingertips and the reflex points.  Vitaflex is integrated in the Raindrop Technique.

Raindrop Technique uses a sequence of essential oils that are immune enhancing, support the body's natural defenses, as well as the circulatory, respiratory, endocrine, digestive, nervous, and other body systems. These oils, which are high in antioxidants, are also mood elevating and antiseptic, creating an unfavorable environment for harmful viruses and bacteria that can hibernate in the body. Essential oils are known to boost stamina and energy, help you relax, help manage stress and frustration and promote overall health, vitality, and longevity. The principal oils used include:

  • Valor - This blend contains, spruce, rosewood, blue tansy and frankincense. It helps balance bodily electricities and spinal realignment.

  • Oregano - Highly antimicrobial. Helps clean cellular receptor sites.

  • Thyme – Antiseptic and immune enhancing.  High in phenolpropanoids.

  • Basil – Relaxing to voluntary and involuntary muscles, mentally energizing.

  • Wintergreen – Supports joints and skeletal structure.

  • Marjoram – Soothing to nerves, used for migraines & is highly antiseptic.

  • Cypress – Supports circulatory and lymphatic systems, highly antimicrobial

  • Peppermint - Supports digestive, respiratory and nervous systems.

The oils are dispensed in little drops from a height of about six inches above the back, which is where Raindrop Technique gets its name. First, the oils are applied to the feet. Then they are massaged along the spine and back muscles. This technique is considered a wellness treatment, not a massage.

The whole process takes about an hour and may continue to work in the body for up to one week following a Raindrop Session, with possible realignment and bodily adjustment taking place during this time.

"Raindrop Technique is not a cure-all or a magic bullet. A healthy balanced body is the result of a well-rounded program of exercise and proper diet. Health is everything we do, say, hear, see, and eat. The Raindrop Technique is only one tool to help restore balance in the body that will result in good health." (from the Essential Oils Desk Reference)

PREPARING FOR A RAINDROP TREATMENT

  1. Wear comfortable clothing to the treatment. Note that oils are vitaflexed directly onto the feet and the entire back.

  2. Remove all jewelry.  Metal interacts with the properties of the oils.

  3. Come to the session hydrated.

  4. These oils are not greasy and absorb into the skin without a residue.

  5. Enter the space with healthy and positive intentions.

  6. Please communicate any discomfort during your treatment to the facilitator.

  7. Do not leave the room immediately after your treatment is complete.  Allow yourself at least 10-15 minutes to sit and drink water afterward.  It is important to feel relaxed and grounded after your treatment.

COMMON QUESTIONS

  1.   Although the oils get absorbed into your skin immediately, they are even more powerful if left on your body for the rest of the day.  Try not to wash them off immediately following treatment completion.

  2. The Raindrop Technique stimulates detoxification of the body, therefore it is critical to drink plenty of water following a session. Try avoid caffeine, sugar or alcohol for a few days.

  3. Some temporary unpleasant feelings can occur while you detox.  These symptoms can include headaches, body soreness or, rash of the skin.

INTEGRATIVE COUNSELING

A spiritual Mentor can be interpreted in many different ways.

I can only share my experiences being mentored, which has guided me towards being able to  mentor others in the same way.

What's the difference between a Mentor a Coach and a Therapist?

From my perspective, mentoring is a deep, long lasting relationship, where as a coaching relationship, has more structure and often more goal-driven.  Although, there is some crossover between the two, a mentor shares their knowledge, skills and experiences, to help another develop and grow on a path.  A coach is a supportive partner that provides guidance to a client to help them make lifestyle changes, reach goals, and live to their fullest potential.

From my perspective,  coaching anyone is truly a sacred experience, because there’s a unique relationship between a client and a coach.  I am not a therapist, I don’t diagnose, I don’t prescribe and I don’t judge.  What I do is create a deeply safe space where you can completely be yourself with absolutely no strings attached.

Being a spiritual mentor, is a sacred opportunity to share a soul connection with another person who is deeply interested in personal growth.

Through my experience of Vedic studies, Yoga Philosophy, and the studies of several sacred texts, we can develop a beautiful connection.
