Winter Blues ~ Ayurvedic Tips for the Winter Season

Our last Chat-tty Tea Time of the year was on Wednesday, December 11th. Thank you all for attending!!

Here's a few takeaways from our Chat:

  • Winter in naturally a time of year for us to go inward. Nature is slowing down and it's natural for us to do the same. It's a time of reflection, and rest. However, our modern day lifestyle, seems to pick up speed during the last few months of the year. This is counter intuitive to what is happening in nature. This can lead us to exhaustion going into the new year.

  • Holiday pressure can be intense due to tons of obligations. Take some time to reflect on what is truly important and what might be able to come off of the "Obligations list."

  • Ayurveda refers to this time of year, late fall/early winter, as Vata season. Vata is cold and dry. In order to manage our health through this season, we need to practice the opposite qualities of the season. This means, eating all warm and cooked foods, having lots of soups and stews, drinking warm/hot water. Cold and dry food during this cold and dry season, will increase Vata in your body. Excess Vata in the body, can lead to things like unstable digestion, body stiffness, restlessness or agitation in the body and/or the mind.

  • Daily routines for winter can be oiling your body regularly, going to bed a little earlier to let your body align with the rhythm of nature, gentle moving to keep the body warm and fluid.

  • Most importantly, having no ice in your beverages. This is a biggie and everyone thinks I'm nuts for saying this. Ayurveda does not ice anything, simply because cold contracts and warm flows. We want to flow!

OUR NEXT VIRTUAL CHAT-TTY TEA is on:
